This may be a duplicate comment - I think I forgot to hit the 'submit' button. Just wanted to say "fine fotos!" - including the one of you on Saddam's throne. Use that one for the 'author' foto on the book jacket when you publish the journal. Also liked the slice of GI life inside the palace, with the view of the menu, including corn dogs! Hey guy, I hate to say it but I'm really going to be bummed when you get shipped back home. Keep up the good work in the meantime. Love the shot on the throne...that's a keeper. And hey, somebody send this guy a new camera! Sat 30-Aug-2003 18:05

Have you read Riverbend's post about the cost of repair to a bridge? Friday morning I was listening to NPR's report of hughly costly and inefficient outsourcing to Halliburton of work that should be done by army for its own. Riverbend discussed a Halliburton repair estimate for a partially wrecked bridge at $50 million. Her relative with heaps of similar experience estimated $300,000. We gotta line Dick's pockets, I suppose. 0)

I love your pics! It's too bad your poor little camera isnt up to the task of preserving the sights of what must be the biggest adventure of your life. I imagine the thing is loaded with gritties and choking on dust, just like you. Dont run it over with a HMMV like you said you are going to do. Put it on the mantle, in a place of honor, like the soldiers of WWII did with the Kodak Brownies that some of them carried. Its an amazing thing that you have pictures at all, but for the wonders of technology. Thanks for sharing and keep your head down and your good work up! Sat 30-Aug-2003 19:34

".i can only hope they never get the chance to see how the other half lives..."

But Moja, they SHOULD! Everyone should!
as everyone should read riverbend, thor and salam.
As Americans we are too Insulated from the reality the rest of the world lives.

Keep up the great work!

Do you get the impression that this country or area would benefit from some re-leafing?

Thanks for sharing with us.

Your photo of Saddam's throne and the WMD's with the accompanying caption is absolutely priceless. Thanks for having the courage to tell it like it is. Please keep safe and I hope you're home sweet home very soon! Sun 31-Aug-2003 01:13

Thanks for posting these interesting photos. You are doing a great service for everybody reading your blog by documenting what's going on in Iraq post Sadam from a US soldier's point of view. I hope it survives so people a hundred years from now will have the perspective you have given us of these important events. Sun 31-Aug-2003 07:31

Ditto mimi. Salem's got a book and I think you deserve one too. Plus you've got pictures, and that Saddam Throne pic has got to be on the cover. I imagine that picture must trigger a unique mix of emotions in you. It captures the absurdity of it all so well - and yet it's all so real. I think my PC needs some new wallpaper anyway... Thanks so much for the pictures you have posted. It is so interesting that we can see so much. Yes, technology allows us to experience much. Mainly thank you for taking your precious free time to post these and your humorous comments ie found WMD time to come home. Halleuja, can't wait for that day for you all to be able to come home! I so appreciate all you are doing. Take care and I'll continue to pray for you all. Sincerely The Mommoo Tue 2-Sep-2003 17:04

Thank you for sharing this part of your journey through life with me. You, and Salam & Riverbend, have left your marks in my personal growth, in my micro world. As these micro-markings are repeated thousand folds all over the world, you guys have left your marks in history, the macro world. Mark my words, history will show that in 2003, the bloggers from Iraq rocked. bush sucked.
Live long and prosper.

Ever since Salam Pax started writing, I have been following the plot through his, and now Riverbend's...and your blogs.
I am constantly moved by the luminous humanity, and honesty of your appraisals of this ghastly situation. Through your writing it is so clear that we have it in us to run the world wisely...if we are allowed to. I think you should all be published daily in the newspapers so people really understand what is going on. Meanwhile I boringly flash your blogsites to anyone and everyone whose Email address I have. Thanks to all. Julia
